Placenta Services Contract

If I am not already supporting you at your birth, it is your responsibility to notify me as soon after the birth as possible to make arrangements for pick up. Failure to do so may result in delayed placenta preparation and encapsulation and may cause decreased potency of nutrients, hormones, and other beneficial attributes of the placenta, and even spoilage of the placenta which would render it unsuitable for encapsulation. If possible, you or your support person should notify me when you are in active labor so scheduling accommodations can be made.

Whether birthing at home, at a birth center, or in a hospital, please ensure that the placenta is kept fresh. It can remain at room temperature for 3-4 hours following the birth. After that (or sooner if possible) it should be refrigerated (40 degrees or below). If some form of delayed cord cutting or lotus birth is being practiced, ice packs may be wrapped up with the placenta to prevent spoilage. If it is going to be more than 3 or 4 days before the placenta can be prepared, it should be frozen. Prepare the placenta for transport by placing it in two large, freezer-strength zippered plastic bags, then into a cooler with ice packs or into a refrigerator.

It is your responsibility to discuss release of the placenta from the place of birth and to ensure proper storage of the placenta in a refrigerator or cooler with the placenta placed on ice until it can be picked up or delivered for preparation and encapsulation. Please contact me if you need assistance with this process.

I will use proper food handling techniques and perform the encapsulation in a clean environment using tools and equipment that have been cleaned and sterilized before and after each use.

I hold current Texas Food Handler and Bloodborne Pathogens & Infection Control Standards certifications.

Encapsulation, and other placenta services, typically take 2-3 days after I have received the placenta. If there is an unexpected delay in the processing timeline due to illness, births, or other circumstances, I will communicate with you to inform you of the expected delivery timeline.

Payment for placenta encapsulation services is due in full prior to me taking possession of your placenta. If contracted separately from birth and postpartum services, I will email you with payment details after receiving your contract.

If the contract is terminated after releasing the placenta to Haley but before any preparation has begun, the placenta will be returned for disposal. 10% of the service fee is non-refundable.

There will be no refund and payment will be due in full once preparation has begun.
